Three Premier League Clubs Handed Massive Boost By AS Roma's Kostas Manolas Announcement
AS Roma are open to the sale of centre-back Kostas Manolas in the summer, but only if he moves abroad, according to Calcio Mercato.
The Greek defender has been impressive since making the switch from Olympiacos to Roma, earning a handful of admirers around Europe. Their willingness to sell the defender will be a massive boost for Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United who have all been linked with the 25-year-old.Juventus and Inter Milan are also said to be interested in Manolas, with the former making contact last summer over a potential move.
Considering how good Manolas has been though, it is no surprise that Roma are simply unwilling to sell to another Serie A side. This leaves the Premier League trio in a good position if I Lupi do decide to sell.Liverpool are perhaps the most likely to make a move for the Greek as they need a centre-back more than the other two English clubs. Joel Matip has fitted in well and formed a good partnership with Dejan Lovren, however, the pair have only played with each other a handful of times.
Jurgen Klopp's side have been endlessly linked with a move for Virgil van Dijk but could be put off by the rumoured £50m asking price, forcing them to look elsewhere.Chelsea, on the other hand, have the best defence in the league so far this season and still have Kurt Zouma waiting in the wings to come back into the fold. Perhaps any move for someone of Manolas' stature would signal the end of Cesar Azpilicueta's days at centre-back with a move back to a wider defensive position.
Manchester United, similarly, do not have an obvious need for a centre-back. Chris Smalling creates a sturdy partnership on paper alongside Eric Bailly but injury problems mean that these two haven't partnered each other as many times as Jose Mourinho would've liked either.
The season is slowly drawing to a close and Chelsea appear to be closing in on their first league title since Antonio Conte's arrival. With Manolas currently watching Juventus make their way towards a sixth consecutive Serie A title, perhaps any move for the Greek will come down to where he thinks is his best chance of trophies.
